On a whim, I changed my display language to Russian today. I wasn't expecting to be impressed by the translation considering the inconsistencies that are present in the English text, but I was amazed by how many things didn't even get translated at all! Most skills and henchmen/hero names remain untranslated; some areas are either translated with imprecise names or not at all. Worse, some skills are actually showing up wrong. Glyph of Lesser Energy gives an invariable reduction of 15 per spell in the Russian version even though its functionality was recently changed.

I would send support tickets, but the sheer number of deficiencies renders that solution inadequate. Is the translation still being worked on, and was rolled out in an incomplete state in order to be rolled out at all? If the translation effort by ANet is complete, is ANet looking for player help in spotting and fixing these errors?

If the answer to the last question is "yes," perhaps we could use this thread for that purpose?

But they didn't even use it on everything! It seems to have been applied only to some skills, some henchmen, some zones... mostly in Nightfall.

Not to mention the translation is soooo crappy! Who was beta testing this? monkeys?They probebly were in the hurry cause they said a date for release although it needs a ton of work.Get back to Work Anet and do it properly please!

Er for ppl who have other primary languages and for ppl who cant understad english,so even borat's mum can play gw.Stop the hate towards arena net and guild wars,they are doing the best they can,and if there is constant negative feedback it takes longer.I for one applaud anet for taking the time to even add russian support.If you dont like it or there are mistakes switch to english or bork bork bork,Stop the hate and stop the complaining,rather make a thread with something positive.And no they did not use freetranslation.com.

Do we really want Borat's mum playing this game? Do we want kids who don't understand english playing this game? Sorry to say but this isn't a game for the whole family. It's supposed to be international too. How the hell am I supposed to communicate with someone who only understands russian, and even the skill names are different?! How am I supposed to tell him what build or tactics to use?!

Uhhh you dont have to? They can play with other russian speaking people or by themselves or if they know other languages they can play with people of that language.

1) Russian translation - sux.
2) MirageMaster, stop bashing Anet in ur every post. It was our company, called "Buka" who did this crappy thing.
3) Corinthian, Borat and "his mum" hv nothing in common with Russia. Tbh most russians don't even know who the hell is he. He's "russian" only for americans, i think. And don't worry, mate, I will tell u what build or tactics u should use. In ur language.

and the complaining continues....i know borat issnt russian..i was just saying...anet doesnt have to add language support for anything if they want..do u see other AAA games doing it?dont think so,never saw Doom 3 in russian or any other language for that matter,the way i see it anet is doing international players a favour so stop whining.And kids play this game eyt they still have the skills to read english,rather thank anet for their support and ask them to please fix the bugs,dont make threads or posts attacking them for doing players a favour,i really doubt anet are a bunch of heartless bastards,they bring us new things every month...you see that happening in most online games...they call it updates...anet calls it content and updatesmkey word there content....not justfixes and stuff,but new things all the time,they produce new things for us out of thin air and we love it....save the idiots that complain constantly.

Adapt to the play dynamics and work with anet to solve the translation issues.And if you want to complain then leave and go play something else we wont miss negative ppl like you in game.Or ask for help or inform anet of the translation problems,wouldnt that be better than being an idiot ont he forums and moaning like a kid who wants candy,if you want stuff handed to you on a silver plater,become a king or make your own game.

Anet is doign the best they can but there will always be idiots that want things their way and who complain like children cos they cant cope with the changes.Support them dotn flame them.

Similar "problems" with translation are present in the others languages too. That is not new at all! Also, they could fix that problems in the future, I remember some "bugs" in spanish translation were fixed with the time. Some bugs still remain but are minimal, not really important.

There's a thread about this here, though if you can't leave the garbage out of that thread either, just don't post there.

Just a side note; This could easily be a work-in-progress. As you can see with this thread, adding support for cyrillic characters alone is a boon for those who require it.
